I would like to give a big thank you to the Royal College of Psychiatrists for inviting me to present at their General Adult Psychiatry conference last week.
I presented my PhD research on Autistic social communication and discussed the potential implications for psychiatric settings.
I think it is incredibly important to share this work in these settings as we know Autistic people are more likely to have co-occurring mental health conditions which impact on Quality of Life. Being understood by psychiatric professionals can be an additional barrier to mental health support as Autistic people communicate differently which can and does impact the type and quality of support received.
